AUTHOR GUIDELINES — ASWAJA: Journal of Islam and Pesantren Studies
Official Guidelines for Manuscript Writing & Submission
A. Scope and Types of Manuscripts
The journal accepts manuscripts based on empirical research, conceptual studies, theoretical analyses, or critical reviews related to Islam and Pesantren, including Islamic thought, Sufism, Qur’anic studies, Hadith, turath (Islamic intellectual heritage), religious moderation, ecotheology, and contemporary socio-religious issues. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian, English, or Arabic. All submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under review by another journal.
B. Manuscript Format & Structure
Manuscripts must be arranged in the following order:
Title — Informative, clear, and no more than 18 words.
Author Name & Affiliation — Full name without academic titles, institutional affiliation, and email address.
Abstract
Written in Indonesian and English, or Indonesian and Arabic. Maximum 200–250 words, covering: background, objectives, methods, findings, and implications.
Keywords: 3–5.
Introduction
Discusses the phenomenon, its significance for the development of the field, previous studies and research gaps, research arguments, objectives, and theoretical as well as practical contributions.
Methods
Includes research type, data sources, data collection techniques, data analysis, theories, approaches, and other relevant aspects.
Results and Discussion
Main findings are critically analyzed within the context of existing literature.
Conclusion
Concise and refers back to the objectives and key findings.
References
Must follow the APA 7th edition style.
Appendices / Tables / Figures (optional)
Included when relevant and placed after the references.
C. Writing Style and Citation
The title uses Aptos Display, 15 pt, single spacing.
All other text uses Californian FB, 12 pt, 1.15 spacing, standard B5 margins.
Arabic terms must use the LPMQ Isep Misbah font.
References within the manuscript use bodynote citation.
The journal applies APA 7th edition citation style.
All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list and vice versa.
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited; manuscripts proven to contain plagiarism will be rejected.
D. Technical Requirements
Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word format. Images/illustrations must be clear, of sufficient resolution, and provided with captions. Tables must be numbered and titled above the table.
E. Review Process
All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review by experts in relevant fields. Editorial decisions include: accepted without revision, accepted with revision, or rejected. Revisions must be returned within the timeframe specified by the editors, accompanied by clear revision notes.
F. Publication Ethics
Authors are responsible for the originality and validity of the content. Any conflicts of interest must be clearly disclosed. If the article involves human subjects or surveys, an appropriate research ethics statement must be included.
G. Copyright & License
Authors agree to grant the journal the right of first publication upon acceptance. Articles are published under an open-access license in accordance with journal policy (e.g., CC BY).
H. Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s Online Submission System (OJS). Ensure that all required documents (main article and supplementary files) are fully uploaded. Authors are strongly encouraged to include a statement of originality and confirmation that the manuscript is not under review by another journal.
