FOCUS AND SCOPE
ASWAJA: Journal of Islam and Pesantren Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes original research articles, conceptual papers, and critical reviews focusing on Islamic studies and pesantren traditions within local, national, and global contexts. The journal aims to promote scholarly discourse that integrates classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary approaches and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Focus
The journal focuses on the study of Islam as a lived tradition, intellectual heritage, and social practice, with particular attention to pesantren as a distinctive institution of Islamic education, transmission of knowledge, and cultural authority in Indonesia and the Muslim world.
Scope
The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies, including classical, contemporary, digital, and local interpretations
Hadith Studies and Islamic textual traditions
Islamic Thought and Theology, both classical and modern
Islamic Law (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh), including contemporary legal issues and socio-legal studies
Pesantren Studies, covering history, curriculum, pedagogy, authority, and transformation
Islam and Local Wisdom, including indigenous Islamic practices and local religious traditions
Islam, Society, and Culture, encompassing social movements, media, and public Islam
Islamic Philosophy, Ethics, and Sufism
Islam and Contemporary Issues, such as digital religion, artificial intelligence, gender, environment, and globalization
The journal welcomes interdisciplinary and critical approaches that contribute to the advancement of Islamic scholarship and the development of pesantren studies in response to contemporary challenges.
